| Hello. I am applying for a new USA passport. If a school should happen to offer me a position while I am still in America, do they need a passport number for the local MOJ to issue a Certificate of Eligibility, or can that wait until I apply for a visa at a consulate? Thank you. |

certificate of eligibility is what you get after you have applied for your visa and immigration is satisfied you qualify. They will send you the COE and then you go into the consulate or embassy and replace it with a visa stamp.
I dont see how you can apply for a visa without a current passport (is this a renewal od an old passport?) as the consulate may want to see it but you should have your COE by the time your passport is issued. They wont issue a COE without it.
You can use the old passport to get your visa and then simply transfer the visa over to the new passport. |

| Sorry for resurrecting an old thread (this is the most recent I could find about the COE) but what are the chances of someone being denied a COE after the long wait? I'm just a bit worried. 3 months are almost up but still no sign of my COE from Japan. |

No idea. the only reason they could do that is if you dont qualify for a visa or paperwork is incomplete.

Thanks for the reply. Well, I think I was denied at first. Late Feb they sent back all my documents because they wanted certification from all the schools that I attended, stating that I completed my education in English. The company reapplied for my COE after receiving those certificates. This is my first time applying for a COE and I sent in a lot of stuff just to make sure. Immigration gave back those "other stuff" around the 3rd week of April. The company called them about this, as I've mentioned in the other thread (visa process), and I was informed that they're still processing it.
I was offered a job in Thailand last month but had to deny it because I still have no idea about the status of my COE. |
