Been in Istanbul a month now, living with my soon to be in laws, had a few interviews, don't really want to do evenings and weekend work, as the main reason I came here was to be with my fiance and as she has evenings and weekends free, my taking those hours would defeat the purpose of my coming. I actually got a job last week with a school called bilge adam. To my amazement i got the sack after 1 week. To be honest I was a bit quiet and reserved with the other staff but i'm usually like that in any situation but I always open up after a little while. However in the classroom i was fine and had positive feedback from the students. After turning up for work I was told I didn't 'fit the profile' of the kind of teachers they were looking for, and some other B.S about there being 45 female teachers and only 5 male teachers( so why give me the job ın the 1st place?) . It left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth, but I took it in good grace and am now (again) actively looking for work again. Unfortunately, as I don't know Istanbul well enough yet I have to embarrassingly drag my fiance's mother along with me. Anyway Whine over, I just really want to say high to all u guys and I hope to get some advice when needed and share my experiences of living in Istanbul.

If you receive a PM offering you a job in a chain school, search this forum first for information about it before accepting.

Good Luck

What are your qualifications? Have you considered universities? You won't have much luck finding the hours you want in the language schools...

Oh I don't know ... I quite like stepping out with my mother-in-law from time to time ... gives you a different perspective of the city ...

Makes you feel better as well ... I used to think I was impatient and intolerant until we made a few trips together!

you've come at a hard time for finding work at anywhere but language schools, since summer is coming. if you can afford to, maybe you could part-time, which would mean you could choose your hours more. it would also give you time to get your feet on the ground. and welcome-- istanbul is a fabulous place.
