I am coming to Japan on a Working Holiday Visa. If I get a job in Japan, I know that I am supposed to pay the 20% income tax to the Japanese government but do I still have to pay income tax to the Canadian government?

If I do...I'll be left with nothing...almost

That 20% tax is so high becuz it covers both Canadian and Japanese requirements, regardless of the J gov't keeping it all.

You'll only have to look forward to a single 20% cut.

I believe you can get most if not all of that 20% back, too.

I just checked with the Japanese Association of Working Holiday Makers. They have told me that I was wrong...but with additional information.

So, it appears that you cannot get back that 20% tax. They wrote something about Australians getting part of it back, but under some special circumstances.

So, I suggest if a WHV applicant is Australian, he should ask the JAWHVM about this for details. Might not hurt for non-Australians, too.
