Newbies. You can spot us 10 kil. away. It's that, "What the hell do I do now?" look. Is there anybody intown to assist in making the transition easier, or is it everyone for himself? I'd really hate to see New England transplanted so far south.
Just lookin' for a home--
a place to teach--
some jingle in my pocket--
some smiling faces--
good eats-- |

I feel the exact same way! There is so much info out there and it's overwhelming. When are you going? Maybe we can wander around and try to fit in together? |

I'll be there between 8/29 to 9/3. I'll be in the same boat you were in. Do you have any suggestions or want to be my new best friend? I'm a brunette, semi large breasted and fit. So, I'll ask again... Do you wanna be my friend and help me out? |

Hola,
Whatcha waitin' for? Escape the heat and madness and come south to the balmy land of pura vida.
I arrived seven weeks ago, in Heredia, and got a job with Butler Academy (GREAT place). No problemos making friends, either-- chest or no chest. (BTW, CJ, you didn't mention your gender.)
Work is exploding, but I'll try to help anyone who finds his (common gender) way to Heredia. As for Chepe, can't help ya. I have metrophobia. Just e-mail me, and I'll treat you to a nice, fresh glass of noni juice. You've tasted nothing like this before-- guaranteed! And don't worry about spicy food; you'll be hard pressed to find any here.
Hasta banana!

I couldn't help but notice that none of you are actually IN Costa Rica yet...
By the way, "semi large breasted" is nothing for a guy to boast about...

D'oh! of course...if I'd read his (or her) post instead of looking at the "Location:" part of the "Author" section, then I'd have realised that she (or he) was in Heredia. My humblest apologies.
But really, I'd see someone about those b(r)easts, young man...

Yep, I am here, in Heredia, teaching at Butler Academy. Always looking for a friendly face and an excuse for a cup o' Joe, usually at Espigas. Sorry, but I don't have a cell phone, and with any luck, won't ever have one, either. Telephones, imso, should be for emergencies only; otherwise, very intrusive. What the hell do people yack about on those things for hours on end anyway, eh?
After two months in country, I wonder what would draw anyone back to the cooker, los eeuu. Unless, of course, it's family or school. I suppose we could find fault with balmy C.R., but after living through the Nixon, Reagan, Bush (and Johnson, Clinton) years, I see nothing to boast about, amigos. Anywhody, I'm here to stay.
If I can help with anything, give a holler. I enjoy sightseeing, good conversation (yep, politics, philosophy, & religion are right up there), fine cigars, Bavarian dark, arroz con pollo, INBioparque, dogs & kids-- not necessarily in that order.
One final point: Ticos, Ticas, Nicos, Nicas, right? Gong! Very wrong. Nicaraguenses is the correct term. Nico is a derrogatory name used all too frequently here. If you think the U.S. is hot about illegal aliens, wait'll you catch an earful here. Thankfully, for the most, Ticos view gringos as nice folk who come here to help and to enjoy la pura vida. We certainly aren't trying purposely to drive up costs and prices. That's well understood. But I digress--
Ciao for niao. TGO |
