just wondering,
can anyone verify if it is possible to gain a Masters degree in Applied Linguistics from Open University Australia without an undergraduate degree?? I have seen this floated around on daves and upon searching the website for eligibility requirments found this
Any student is eligible to register for individual units in this program. Prior study of linguistics is not a prerequisite.
Students wishing to work toward the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics or the Master of Linguistics must meet the following criteria:
Have a bachelors degree with at least a credit average in the final year; or
Have a bachelors pass degree with demonstrable professional experience at a senior level in a relevant area; or
Have a Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics with a credit in
each unit.
now...
does this mean I could say study the units for the grad cert....(with credit average) then work towards getting the Masters all without the bachelor degree?????
(i have emailed the co-ordinator regarding this but wanted to hear if anyone on daves has practical experience) |

Any particular reason why you are posting this on the Middle East General information board? Perhaps the section of Dave's that covers OZ might be more helpful? just a thought...

Since the Certificate is a graduate qualification, you will normally need a first degree. But I think some unis do accept extensive, verifiable experience plus an initial TESOL qualification like the CELTA in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
I know someone who did an MA in TEFL by distance from a UK university who didn't have a BA but he had a CELTA, a DELTA and six years' of solid teaching experience behind him.
What did the course coordinator say? |
