I posted this on the Mexico forum where I usually post but have heard nothing, so here goes again:
Good day all.
In Wedneday May 23'd on line edition of the NY Times there's an editorial by Thomas Friedman titled A Million Manhatten Projects-"The major industrial country that gets the greenest the fastest, with the smartest technologies that's the country that will lead the 21st century".
I'd really like to read it and use it in one of my higher level classes today, the students are working on a project to come up with green ideas that would have a positive impact on their comunities and hopefully the university where we all work and study. In yesterday's class, which included enviornmental engineering students, an article that we were looking at mentioned hybrid cars and a Canadian bank that is offering special financing to stimulate sales-and none of the students had ever heard of them-hybrid cars that is! Not misunderstanding the term.
The problem is that the article's only available to premium subsribers,of which I'm not one. My question is do any of you out there have access to this article, and if so be willing to share it with me? I know I'm asking for something for free but they don't sell ANY newspapers where I live, never mind foreign ones. I'd run out and buy one right away if I could. That would also explain the lack of awareness amongst people in general where I live in Meico.
THanks |

| Wow, thanks for the quick reply. And yes I do take him with a grain or thousand of salt. I just hope to spark some interest and discussion. |

I like Friedman.
He is one of the few journalists today that make any effort at all to present a balanced opinion - versus their personal political stand - on international issues.
I say this in spite of that fact that I consider myself a conservative in many ways - yet his article is published in/on the "True Blue Liberal". |

Friedman sang a differnt song a few years ago. I can't remember the whole story, but when I read his 'Lexus and the Olive Tree,' he tried to convince us that the countries with the biggest broadband will rule. Now he's advancing the green side. Like I said, he's a man for all seasons. I think he tries to make his arguments credible by saying: 'Look, I travel all over the world and I drop names to prove it, so I know what I'm talking about.' He's hardly neutral, as someone has suggested.
Anyway, he's a good introduction for advanced English speakers before they they get to Chomsky or Tariq Ali |
