A friend is looking into a teaching position in Doha. Any information you have about it would be appreciated.

I'd be most interested in salary, cost-of-living, and the social life.

It seems, as according to the US State Dept., there are some "travel concerns" for Americans, westerners... ??? Not that I feel particularly safe in the USA, but that's why I don't live there!

Thank you! Very Happy

Read the threads in this forum - that should give you a good general idea.

I'll add my standard response to this kind of post. What kind of teaching job? What is their education? What is their experience? What are their expectations? Primary school? Secondary school? university?

Your question as written is pretty much unanswerable. As Younggeorge says, read the posts here ... or even better send your friend here to read them.

As to danger... the world is a dangerous place these days. You do some research and decide what you consider a risk. Personally I feel that one's risk is much higher in the US.

QP BABY! IT IS THE PLACE TO WORK FOR AND DOHA IS THE MOST EXCITING CITY ON EARTH THESE DAYS!

Just wanna help!

Hey Veil,

Just relax! I am just kidding! It really bothers me when people post new messages and don't read the previous ones!

My message to the person is read the thread before asking! Am I correct?

Thanks!

I'm almost afraid to post, as this is one of the few latest Qatar/Doha related threads that Cecil hasn't locked. Very Happy

To all you QGMT employees, I was able to get the transportation allowance out of the sponsor before I left. My argument was I didn't share a car, I only got a ride to work with a person who had use of a car. And I didn't even have a key to the ignition, so how could I be sharing a car? I said that if the car is only for getting back and forth to work, then all the teachers should park the car except for commuting to the job.

It might be worth 500 QR/month to ya.

It was to me. Very Happy

Not to start any discussion of board management that could trigger another lock, but the locking of the threads was pretty predictible what with the direction they took - all just repetitions of the same QP rants over and over in three parallel threads. I'd say that it was generous of the 'powers what be' to lock and leave rather than pull them. There was some good information in them mixed with the personal nitpicking that ensued.

Anyone that does a minimal search now will have no excuse if they take a job with QP. They can't come back and complain that no one here told them. Those who posted with bad experiences have been preserved for posterity. Cool

Glad to hear that you got the transport allowance out of them.
