I was hoping the veterans in the field might be able to help me. I was wondering what the difference would be, job opportunity wise, for having a graduate degree versus not having a graduate degree before I search for a teaching job in Prague? Will the advanced degree help to open more doors or have an effect on pay status?

I was hoping to attend school in Prague to receive my certification in ESOL, but I was wondering if it would be better to put that plan on the back-burner for awhile and attend graduate school, or should I pursue my dream now and worry about my grad degree later? (In case this will have any bearing on anyone�s suggestion, I plan on getting my Master�s in Teaching). However, teaching abroad is something I am really passionate about and would love to do now, while I am still young and without a family to tie me down.

Any advice would be greatly appreciate! Thanks in advance!

I would jump into teaching right now and see how you feel about it before going to Grad school. If you work as a regular TEFL teacher, your pay will probably pretty similar with or without a masters. The experience and the contacts you make working here is what will help you move forward in your career here. In my experience, most owners of schools look more towards general ability, dedication and reliability when picking people to be head teachers or DOSs instead of just going for the degree.

Besides, a masters will give a lot of information on theory behind teaching but it won't teach you about school management, leadership or other qualities that owners are looking for if they want someone to run their school.
