In 2002 the PR point was increased from 110 to 115. Then after 2 years the point increased to 120. So in this way will it keep on increasing after every two years ??

If this increases to 125 then there will be hardly any international students to get PR-----only those studying at regional + the course is in 60 point list will be elligible.

PLZ post ur views.......and tell me whether this rise of the points may take place or not....?

I certainly hope not, or I wouldn't be able to achieve the pass mark (age being the major drawback for me). I am already leaning towards studying in a regional area for the extra 5 points and will probably invest the $100,000 in a government bond for another bonus just to be safe.

I have read that there are some revisions being discussed right now in an effort to reduce the number of international students graduating from schools in Oz. applying for PR status.

The proposed changes place a higher emphasis on the applicant's level of English and want graduates to obtain more working experience in Aust. while on a bridging/temporary visa (without all the benefits such as subsidized health care and schooling for our kids) before being granted PR status.

How can an international student get work exp in Australia (after completion of the course) if he does not get PR? If there are some other way to extend the stay in Aust plz let me know. I am presently doing bachelors in comp sys engineering.

Can u tell why the gov is trying to reduce the international students from getting PR---as u said.

If AUS gov reduces the number of int students from getting PR then AUS will also suffer in educational business with the other countries as--USA, UK and even many students from developing nations r going to China for higher studies.

Before I attempt to give you a reply I just want to let you know that my source of this information is just hearsay. I can't verify the accuracy.

Anyway, from my understanding the propsition is to grant graduates a longer bridging visa to work in Australia for two years. This ensures graduates are actually working in their field as opposed to something not on the skilled shortage list. For example, getting qualified as a "hairdresser" in Oz gives you 60 ponts but after the PR status is awarded that newly qualified hairdresser can do any work he/she would like. This runs the risk of immigrants taking Aussie jobs.

As I previously mentioned, the downfall for potential immigrants seeking PR status is that we would not qualify for subsidised health insurance and will have to pay full fees for our kids education during those two years of obtaining relevant work experience.

I agree with you that this would deter international students from coming to study in Australia. It would make more sense for them to get qualified at home and work for a couple of years there before making the PR application from their home country.

How can a bridging visa be of two years ? I mean on what conditions this extention is possible, for students like us.

One BIG thing that is worrying me is that after completion of a course if one does not get PR then what r the conditions the student can stay back for few more years in search for jobs?? PLZ help me out.

Keep in mind that the immigration system is designed to benefit Oz.
Giving out PR just to fill classrooms without thought to the long term usefulness of the individual doesn't make sense.
There is a growing awareness in Oceania that many PR seekers are looking for an economic/quality of life bolthole to be activated at some time in the future when things turn to custard elsewhere.
