Hi all,
I was just trying to look through my options.

I have applied for PKC, hered Nova was sh*t!!!
Would it be worth while doing a short ESL/EFL course?
Help please.
Much appreciated. |

Brooke, I wish you the best of luck. But, what makes you think you are qualified to teach English in Japan, or anywhere else for that matter? You have no degree and are only 19 years old. Yes, nova is "sh*t", but even they won't accept you. Perhaps you could teach kids, but I can't imagine an adult wanting to have a lesson from a 19-year old kid.
It seems that you want to come to Japan to party (extasy, dance parties). Have you considered being a hostess? There are no educational requirements and you could meet like-minded people.
Good luck! |

You have no idea what kinda person i am!
F*ck you, I dont know why im wasting my time on this site, trying to get information and not getting anything at all! |

That's what we think when you post. Earthmonkey pretty much summed it up, put you in your place and gave you realistic information. You're you're not good looking enough to be a hostess, well.... Grow up. |

Think about Japan when you actually become a woman. Based on what you've done with your last 25 posts, it's going to be a while. |

Brooke, I don't think earthmonkey was being condescending or rude to you. I think he was giving you realistic options... It may seem unfortunate, but without a degree and at your age (not to mention your perceived demeanor) it's going to be hard to get a teaching job.
From your posts, it DOES seem like you're more interested in coming to Japan to dance and party than to teach English. We're not trying to be jerks, we're trying to be realistic! Don't take it personally. |

I asked once what the party scene was like, just once and was attacked, so I gave up on that, realised that this was not the place to be discussing these issues.
I appreciated constructive critisism, but this is all a bit harsh, telling me that all I can do is hostesing. I am a lot smarter than that and a lot more professionsal.
If I get accepted to Peppy's I will surely be back to tell you all! |

Okay well, allow me to give you a little constructive criticism then. You asked if you'd be at an advantage with a TEFL/TESOL certificate. Maybe a little bit. But the clincher here is a degree from an accredited university. My advice, since you're asking, is to get one of those. |

Not a problem. Also, you might want to try not getting so frustrated when people on this board are harsh on you. Be persistant, but not childish. When I first came on here I got a lot fo crap for.... well I still don't really understand what it was for. Anyway, act like an adult and people on here will treat you like one. |

To the OP:
If you thought the responses above were too harsh, you have no business working overseas. |

Hi Brooke,
I havent worked for Peppy myself but know a few people (both Japanese teachers and foreigners who have). From what I understand from listening to them, the focus of your lessons will be on learning English through games and songs and you need a lot of energy! I wouldnt think an EFL qualification would be as necessary as showing the recruiters that you can give an entertaining lesson to kids. Everyone I know that has worked at Peppy say its a pretty good gig if you like working with kids and the plus with them is that you can ask for (and apparently get pretty easily) a branch transfer so you can see more of the country. If you feel an EFL qualification would give you more confidence then go for it and it could help you out with other jobs too. Good luck with your interview! |
