|
|
For most of my TEFL ''career'' I have never got payslips for various reasons such as:
The employer would have to pay social security and tax.
The employer paid in cash and so why bother.
The school was too small to bother with them.
The employer did not know what they were.
How many of you get payslips and do you care? |

All my TEFL jobs have been crap.
To count them-would you include part time jobs, summer schools and private lessons?
How many have you had and could you buy a property in Kucukyali if you wanted to live there? Hey-there is a dolmus to Taksim pretty regular. |

To answer the question, at both my current and my previous school I have received complete payslips, with a breakdown of all deductions. |

At my conversation school, I got a breakdown of what had been taken out of my check. This was written on some sort of semi-official document, but certainly not a government-issued one. Don't know of this was the norm, but you should at least get that much, in my opinion.
At my private high school and university, I got normal paychecks with official payslips showing deductions. |

If a job is legit, they should be willing to provide documentation of what they're paying you. In my current job, I get complete payslips with deductions etc.
In some previous jobs (small schools) I haven't, but they've still been willing to help out with company letters and things when I needed documentation for whatever reason.
The only places I've been that this wouldn't be the case was when the work was "under the table" for whatever reason.

... it makes you wonder what the ratio is of 'pay slips' to 'slip ups in pay' ... |

I have always had payslips with my pay. All except for my first job in Korea. We were paid cash and all our taxes were pocketed by the boss. |

If a job does not provide pay slips with detailed information about hours and deductions for pensions, health insurance, taxes, etc. then you should consider another job. All of my legal jobs in ESL provided a pay slip. My illegal jobs did not provide slips but this should be expected. |

Chinese unis usually do not give pay slips or receipts or anything but cash.
They are legit. |
