Anyone working in Hunan, specifically at a university there? or do you know what the typical salary is for Universities in Hunan? I was talking with the director of the education Bureau for Hunan, and she told me that they can only offer 3,000 RMB for qualified English teachers, housing, and insurance, with only 2200 RMB travel bonus each year. ( 16 periods)
What do you think of this? Sounds really low to me.. |

Sounds low but is not below standard; it could be higher but there is no legal requirement for them to pay more.
Even in Guangdong you get offers that low; Hunan is much poorer.
Missing from the offer made to you seems to be the airfare. What about that? |

Perhaps you might have been speaking with someone else other than the person that you give us to understand because the DIRECTOR of the Education Bureau for Hunan is a man and not a woman, and his name is Mr. W*** and he is in ChangSha and I know him personally. He generally does not give out the kind of information that you mentioned.
Are you sure that you were not speaking with the Foreign Affairs Officer of the school where you wish to work?
Next, I would need to know the geographical region of Hunan to which you are referring. Salaries in ChangSha and the surrounding region CAN be considerably higher than that which you mentioned.
Finally, I would need to know how many years you have been teaching in Canada and what your level of education is.
All of the above would directly influence the salary level here in Hunan.
