Ok ... I have a B.A. in English, was Editor in Chief of my college newspaper, and I studied at the Sorbonne for a semester, so my French is quite good. What are my chances of finding a job in Morocco?
I'm taking a TEFL course in Bordeaux this August. I've emailed all the ALC schools with only one response. So here's my question ... with my qualifications, would it be a good idea to simply go on down to Morocco and knock on doors?
I'll be in Paris for a week or so after the TEFL course. Is that good place to job hunt for Morocco?
The reason I'm intent on Morocco is that I'd like to continue speaking French, and I'd like to learn Arabic. Any response/advice is much appreciated.

Maybe Morooco is not such a good place to learn Arabic as my students in the Gulf Middle Eastern countries tell me that even they don't quite understand the dialect - possibly because it's a mixture of Berber, Arabic and some French?
Morocco certainly is an interesting country though so best of luck!

Thanks! I'm not so much concerned about the possibility of learning Arabic right now as I am actually finding a job. How wise would it be to just show up in Morocco?

Hi Claire:

I think you're on the right track for a job in Morocco once you get the TESOL cert out of the way. I would not recommend, in the case of Morocco, moving there (or visiting it) and looking for work. I think you will find something from abroad, and be more inclined to receive airfare (or partial airfare) from the new employer to help bring you abroad. While other countries, such as Spain and Italy, rely on their potential teachers to show up in the country without a job and start interviewing, I do not believe Morocco to be in the same league.

Since you are a new teacher without much experience, the pay might be lower as will the benefits (airfare, accommodation, etc.) but there are opportunities. Egypt and Tunisia are also low cost-of-living nations where you could earn a decent wage and enjoy a good life. Good luck!

June is not the best time to look for work.
September is when the school year begins.
Someone from the ALC may interview candidates next year at the TESOL conference.
