I have been looking into a few jobs in Montevideo and I realized I know absolutely nothing about Uruguay. Can anyone tell me the basic information on the country. Cost of living, danger factor, night life, etc....

you might try your home country foreign service office, embassy webpages for the country.

the CIA Factbook is not the most reliable source. There are reports on economics on europa.int and the IMF and World Bank websites as well.

Tht CIA factobook is great to learn how many telephones, light bulbs, and military manpower a country has. Important stuff when looking for a teaching job.

Did you know that in Argentina...

-the literacy rate is 97.1 %
-there are 8.7 million telephones (in 2004)
-there are 8,981,886 available males for military service

I'm kidding. I like the site for having a lot of info. I will need these stats for when I invade Argentina.

20-30% more expensive than buenos aires so go to the argentine forum, read about cost of livng and add 30% (except i have no idea about rents in montevideo, probably a bit lower i would think). at a (slightly wild) guess, i'd say you'd need to earn a minimum of us$700-800 to be able to live in reasonable comfort, possibly a little more.

more chilled out than buenos aires, less to do, fewer bars, restaurants etc but a couple of really nice beaches right in the city centre, an amazing flea market every sunday and tasty tasty women. also a pretty safe city, probably a little safer than BsAs (which is hardly a dangerous place), less corruption than argentina. from what i've heard, almost no jobs for english teachers.
