I'd like to hear from anyone who has moved away from teaching and working in another field, perhaps started their own busines. Specifically, how long you taught for, what you do now, whether the change has been worth it (in any sence of "worth") What you'd do differently next time... |

one of my friends and i bought a small hotel in phuket last year and managed it on our own. it was a good life, being able to be on the beach every day and being your own boss, but it also takes a lot of responsibility. previously we had both taught english. we sold the hotel late last year tho as my friends wife had a baby and he needed to be in bangkok for a lengthy period and i didnt want to run the whole thing on my own for an indeterminate period of time. he's recently just started a home renovation business in bangkok now.

its not hard to do something else with your life after teaching, if you have some cash, some initiative, and some ideas.
