| Taiwan is one of the most polluted countries around, but I wonder if it would be true to say that the pollution in the cities on the less populated Eastern side of the island is usually not too bad? |

It is very true. If you want to escape Taiwan's pollution then Yilan, Hualian and Taidong are the places to do it.
I have a friend who lives in Yilan and when I go out to visit him it is amazing how clean the air is there. YOu don't really notice how dirty Taipei's air is until you actually go somewhere that isn't so polluted. |
