Hi guys,
Can you help me out? Is it normal practice for a school to ask the teacher to pay for processing their quailfications with the EMB? or are they being a little mean?

Prior to recent changes, no charge was made. But now, and independent organisation looks into the validy of qualifications, and it seems schools expect teachers to pay the fees themselves. |

Yes, Tim, that is normal.
The qualification review is seen as beneficial to the NET as it recommends the most suitable salary scale point based upon the NET's qualifications and experience. As such we are expected to pay it.
Why it costs $2300 is beyond me. |

As I understand it, if you have a local qualification from a local university, then, you don't have to have your overseas documents checked.
I know a man with a BA and an M.Ed. who was told by the HKCAA that he can only teach up to F.5. Hong Kong students. His overseas qualifications are not considered by the local powers that be to be high enough to teach local learners above F.5.
I really do hope that someone brings 'them' down to earth. |
