DOS position is a position to manage academic affairs of a school/center. Job duties vary from school/center to school/center. If you want a precise info about that, you might have to contact a particular employer.

Hey, I see what you mean.
Yes, a DOS position in a Chinese school/center often is a position that cannot make much of a difference there. Further more, you as a DOS get in between your foreign teaching staff and the school's/center's Chinese management/ownership....tough to please both sides. Wink
Then, as you say "white money show" and "advertising" is a part of DOS's job.
I believe that it all might as well be a structural problem in a company/school/center. Any DOS shall always clarify his/her role in prior to taking on the postion.

Good for you Malsol that you haven't taken that job since it sounds like your role there was rather unclear to you.
And, good luck to ya in the "mine-field" of foreign academic management positions in China.
