Does anyone know if it's possible to get therapy in English while in Japan?
If it is possible, I would assume it's available only in major cities and the cost is through the roof. Please share any info at all.
Also, will a Japanese therapist see an English-speaking patient, even though he doesn't speak the same language? I know it sounds funny, but sometimes being in the same room with a sympathetic ear is helpful.
Thanks all. |

In Tokyo the TELL or Tokyo English Life Line is the best place. I have heard of English speaking counselors in Kansai.

If the counselor speaks English, maybe. Dont forget that a Japanese counselor will have a Japanese 'mindset' based on their culture and their approach and advice may not appropriate for a person from another culture.
I'm not sure of fees but i think the average is around 10,000 yen for an hour's consultation depending on the nature of the problem. |

skomand, where are you in Japan. I know an Australian guy (his Japanese sucks) and needed help from an English speaking therapist in Osaka. If you're in this area, I can find out more information for you. |

I'm actually still in the US, trying to find a job in Japan. I'm wondering if, once I get there, there will be support if I need it. Yeah, I guess I'm getting really far ahead of myself. I actually found this website for a clinic located in Tokyo: http://www.hozumiclinic.com/counselinge.html
Also found this, you might want to show it to your friend: http://www2.gol.com/users/andrew/ It's a general site about the subject of therapy in Japan. Really is an interesting topic.
Thank you all so much for your help. |
