Hi Guys

When I come to Mexico to work, I was thinking about doing some volunteering at the weekends like I did in the UK.

Are there lots of volunteering opportunities available?

When I worked at a museum here, I used to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity on the weekends in Cuernavaca. It was hard work, I mostly hauled buckets of cement- but it was amazing to watch a house being created by our hands!
Some of my friends volunteered at an orphanage this year, they helped create a library and found hundreds of spiders when they were cleaning off the books Shocked
I asked my students once if any of them did volunteer work. Out of 200, only 3 of them volunteered in their free time. I think most students do that sort of work when their social service contract comes up. So, if you want an oppertunity, just ask people in your community where they think you could go.

yes there are lots of opportunities. Like sam said, once you get here ask around. Its a great way to use real Spanish with real people and make friends with local. I've mostly just done linguistic type volunteer work myself, helping the rotary, lions club and red cross in both written translations and as an interpreter.

The orphanages are a good place to volunteer. They are called Casa Hogar.

Great topic!

I will be moving to DF this summer and living there for a couple of years. I myself have been wondering about volunteer opportunities. Personally, I was thinking along the lines of humane societies or organizations that help out with animal related needs. Does anyone know anything about that...or at least if there are such orgnanizations that I could look into contacting myself once I get there? Thanks!
