I would like to create a list of schools, training centers, agents and other in Shenzhen that are not worth working for or even applying to.
On my list so far are:
1) Y.E.S. Training Center in Shekou
The management is absolutely clueless and purely reactive. I asked for feedback on a new class and was told by Xander that one student wants me to speak more often so she can improve her listening and that another student would like me to speak less so he could improve his speaking. When I pointed out this contradiction he said that I was an experienced teacher and wouldn't have a problem speaking less and more at the same time.
2) EF in Futian
Enough said.
In my 8 months in Shenzhen these are the schools I have the most experience with. Would anybody else like to add to this list.
Please add the reasons why the school deserves to be black listed. |

I truly believe for a blacklist to be worthy of anyone's attention you need to come up with mor serious charges - such as murder, docking your pay, not honouring their obligation to provide you with a residence permit or for their boss to sleep with your girlfriend. |

You want to blacklist a school on these grounds??
You're going to have to get used to that, it happens everywhere. Or you could just stop asking for feedback (which would be my advice)
and
if you're going to start muddying names you better have a reason.

Yes, wed have a helluva a blacklist on the forum, if we took all our issues into considerations.
Then, either way schools issues as well as ours are subjective, arent they?
Now, EF franchise in China has got their black list and that is rather well/secretly kept by the Chinese EF Center Managers/Owners. Those people often are inexperienced and as vindictive as they can be. There are many reasons for blacklisting the foreign teachers in a Chinese franchise.
EF has 60 centers in China and quite a few EF Center Managers as well as Owners keep in touch fairly well using all sorts of communications as well as EF English First email system. Too bad that the EF Head Office in China serves just as an observer and is unaware of any blacklists there.
So, would you guys like to get blacklisted for virtually no reasons if you work for a franchise and let their fingers (yes Bayden) do their job up our a*ses?
With respect to poor management of the school OP has made a good point there. Feedback from classes/students is a routine that should be a practice of language schools. Its also a part of teachers evaluation. Schools managers/academic managers are to discuss the students feedback with teachers. If schools managers/academic managers lack communication skills, experience or are rather uneducated, misunderstandings and then angry confrontations are often unavoidable.
Suggesting that we shouldnt ask for students feedback sounds like someone has little experience in the business.
OP, your experience shared here on the forum is appreciated by me and will as well be by many others.
Cheers and beers

A teacher was blacklisted, but he didn't know about it...
There are many ESL jobs in China, aren't there? |

So, what are your reasons for wanting to blacklist EF Futian?

Out of curiosity, how many employers have you worked for in the eight months? |

To the original OP:
Thank you for your post.
Unlike many of those newbies who have responded in a less than charitable manner to what you have written, my years of experience have taught me to believe that where there is smoke, there is fire.
All the best,
HFG |
