Please stop bashing the honorable Mr. Michael Tan. Many negative posts over many months have caused this sterling example of humanity into a rather defensive position which will only further anger him, causing untold harm. We must all speak with measured tones, cautiously avioding his wrath. We must cease comparing him to Pinochet and Castro. After all, Castro offers everyone free education and health care services. Also unlike Castro, Tan is not forcing anyone to do anything (one Mike-sided comment is my futile attempt at balance). Let him run his business with impunity. Is it not clear Mr. Tan is operating within the boundaries of the law of the land? What do we care if he deducts 10% tax from his payroll and pockets it? The people who should be most upset with this nugget of deception should be the locals. It's their tax dollar ...er...peso which is being taken out of the local economy and being placed snugly in his bank (by bank I mean under the mattress or in the biscuit tin). Ok, I suppose if someone had worked at EU for many years, was suddenly fired for nothing more than asking for a cost of living raise, demanded their non-paid but still deducted tax money......... then that person might just care about that 10% deduction. By the way Mike, good luck at your audit this morning! Seems you finally stepped on the wrong toes.

I make no apologies for those teachers who drink their sueldo the first chance they get. Complaining about schedules, co workers, students, living conditions, etc. They should move on if they are so unhappy. If they don't they cannot blame Mike for that. However, when federal laws are broken there is cause for concern.

Mr. Tan stated in his "mariz" post that God is watching. You are correct. He is watching over all the people who get taken advantage of....the people who deserve his help. I doubt you are in the aforementioned group.

Saludos,
tpg

Ps, Anyone know where I can find a good governess????

I'm appalled at the vincitive little posting that I have just read. It sounds like el gringo has an alterego. It's interesting that both have gone to great lengths to avoid any information that would identify themselves to a reader from the same school.

This reminds me of the bullies in elementary school who would pick on someone in the playground, and the rest of us would not weigh in for fear of becoming the next target.

If the writer has a problem, the noble thing would be to discuss it directly with the person, and then decide whether to move on based on the outcome of the discussion. Back-stabbing is just designed to stir up trouble - sadly some people would rather do this than stand up and be counted where it really counts, face to face.

That said. teaching ESL in Mexico is still a great gig, and I'll be back at it very shortly.

My post is entirely based on FACT. An audit of the school IS underway as of yesterday. For this reality to occur it is rather obvious that someone DID stand up face to face. The only bully is the director. What is your vested interest in defending this person at all cost? It's almost like he is the guy who signs your pay check ( oh wait, it's cash ) and he does. By the way, since when is backstabbing bringing to light to others FEDERAL TAX LAWS which are being circumvented? Seems people who may be interested in coming to SLP and EU may find that information helpful. Then again, I dont wear EU tinted glasses so what do I know. Only in a totalitarian society would speaking the truth (no matter how unpleasant) be considered vindictive. The truth is clearly noble.

My governess will be posting about her take on the whole affair, later today. The governess community in Mexico is surprisingly small, and the gossip that is spread at their annual convention makes this place look like Sesame Street.
