Yeah.I know(obviously) it is not TESOl...but
What did you think of that (some years ago) film "Christine"?Based on a Stephan King novel about a haunted car that comes to life and wreaks havoc on various people. It seems to be sort of a reprise of the earlier King book(and the film, too)"Carrie"
Both concern teenage "losers" who suddenly become more socially acceptable.Carrie gets invited to the prom(although first, just as a joke). The guy in "Christine",a wimp, suddenly becomes Mr.Cool through his association with the killer machine.
Both films end unhappily for the protagonists. The final scene in Carrie is surely a great shocker(well ,at least the first time you see it).In my opinion, the best of all King's books, and the best of DePalma's films.Piper Laurie does a great job of portraying Carrie's religious fanatic mother.

Then there is that "Cujo" farce... little hard to really get scared by a St.Bernard...no matter how big he is and even if he is rabid.

I liked 'salems Lot...but thought the TV version did not do justice to the book.

I agree with you."Dead Zone" is very good. That goes for the book and the movie.Walken is very good in the movie and so is Martin Sheen. The Shining"(movie) is somewhat different from the book."Shining"(the book) is the kind of writing that is difficult to adapt to the screen. However, both the book and the movie were frightening in their own ways.
One of the strangest, most rambling book of King's is "The Stand".One gets the impression that once King "made a name for himself" and was almost instantly recognizable,he sometimes started relying on the value of his name and hence the quality of some of his writing is not up to earlier writing.

I used to be King fan until he starting writing the gunslinger stories, not sure of the titles.
I also liked The Dead Zone, book and movie.I only found Christine to be slightly interesting.Cujo,I didn't like at all and the movie was even worse.
Salem's Lot was a good book but I never saw the movie.I enjoyed reading The Shining and the movie was ok but when Jack Nicholson stuck his head into the door and said "Here's Johnny",I lost all interest in the movie. That scene ruined the movie for me.
I actually enjoyed reading The Stand and the movie. It's a long story but the basic premise of good versus evil and the end of the world made it very interesting for me.
Other titles such as Pet Cemetery,Carrie,Thinner and The Fire Starter are worth reading imho. There are many other titles but I can't remember them all.
