|
|
Yet another NOVA question:
The NOVA website says the starting salaries are bt 220,000 and 241,000 yen per month, depending on location. Is this true? This is lower than the standard eikaiwa starting salary of 250,000 yen per month.
And here's a contradiction: on the Teaching in Japan Page eikaiwa survey, NOVA says...
"Monthly salaries for full-time instructors range between a maximum JY 304,000 and a minimum JY 274,000 in the Tokyo region and between JY 285,000 and JY 255,000 in Kyushu. Salaries for other regions of Japan fall between these figures."
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks for all your help and willingness to enlighten me thus far.
I really, really appreciate it. |

Starting salaries.
Key word -- starting
It means probationary and probably lasts 1-3 months. |

Actually, on that Teaching in Japan page, NOVA says:
"Yes, there is a probationary period of two full salary months. Salary range is JY 250,000 to JY 259,000, dependent on location in Japan." |

| question: what was your probationary and then starting salary your first year w/ NOVA? |
My take home probationary salary was 180,000 - all bonuses and travel expenses inclusive. It's so low because rent is taken out before your paycheck is deposited. (so add 67,000 to that)
My take home starting salary was 290,000, again all bonuses and travel expenses inclusive. Oh yeah, and by this time I had moved out of the Nova apartment. |

Depends on the contract. If you teach 37 lessons - A37 type contract, I think the base salary is 192,000 Yen. Then there are allowances. 5000 Yen for "service" (not sure what the service is though), 25,000 Yen for "regularity" (I think this is your attendance), and "regional" (this depends on where you live. Tokyo is the highest at 19,000 Yen/month, while some areas in the countryside can be 5000 Yen/month or 0 if it's really in the backwaters).
If you're in the middle of nowhere, your post-probationary salary would be at a minimum of 222,000/month. This doesn't include shift allowances. Any late shift (one starting at 13:20) is 5000 Yen/month, and Sunday is 10,000 Yen/month. As a new instructor, you'll probably be working on Sunday, and have at least 2 late shifts. With said A37 contract, you'll make about 242,000 Yen/month. If you're in an area like Tokyo it'll be higher with the regional allowance.
Good luck. |

skomand,
That survey was taken quite a few years ago (5?), while NOVA has updated its web site since then with newer salary figures. Could this also be a part of the discrepancy? |

bornslippy, i think that explains it.
and thanks, glenski, i didn't know how old the salary survey is. seems surprising that the salaries would shrink so dramatically.
whatever, they'll explain it all at the interview.
thanks!@ |
