UAE universities like other Gulf States universities (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman & Kuwait) suffer from the shortage of manpower. Most of the UAE universities, except for those run by American or British administration, are administratively and academically controlled by one or two groups of Arab expatriates. In the past, twenty years ago, the Egyptians were powerful but later they were replaced by Lebanese/Syrians and Jordanians. Today, most of the UAE universities, including AlAin, AbuDhabi, Zayed, Sharja, and HCT are administratively managed by Iraqi exiles who desperately try to assist their own country men and women. No applications from Arab ESL teachers from the North Africa or the Gulf, or even India or South Africa can easily go through. Even if the application goes through the so called Recruitment Committee, consequently, it will be stopped later by the Selection Committee where the members belong to this nationality. However, ESL teachers from English speaking countries can find a job but with a price. A friend of mine who joined Al Ain University could stay there only for one year; the Head of the Department was an Arab expatriate, asked him to revise and redesign all English courses. So if you are Arab/Asian ESL teacher and your application has been turned down by one of the UAE universities, dont think that you are not qualified or incompetent; it is only a matter of personal selection. But if you are an English-speaking ESL teacher and your application got through, be careful: you might be asked to do the donkey- work. [/b]

Rolling Eyes

Someone can't seem to get through the hiring process I guess.

And judging by his post I would say it has little to do with his nationality (MOD edit).

Rolling Eyes

Then why did you start the thread?
(If you took your own advice I wouldn't have had to comment to start with.)
