Greetings

I'll be heading to Japan on July the second. I have a tentative Job offer and am waiting on the confirmation. Plan B, I plan on enrolling in either a Japanese Language School or a Judo Club. My question is,can I work on a Cultural Activities Visa?Does anyone have any experience with this type of Visa?

Thanks in advance

Tim

Student visas only allow you work part-time. Best to check the government website for exactly how many hours that translates to, but probably about 20/wk. In any event, don't expect to be able to just get a student visa, never come to class and just work -- the school where you register is required to take attendance, and you are required to have 90% attendance to retain your visa (with the school reporting its attendance figures back to the government).

Anyway, go here to get the info you need:

http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html

A cultural visa does not allow you to work here (unless you can get a P/T exemption).

NO you cannot.

That said, when, uh, my friend was on that visa she taught private English lessons under the table for a few hours per week and didn't get in trouble. But you can't make a real living that way.
