I paid into the private school pension and health program from april 2000 to march 2002. On May 16 I applied for my lump sum withdrawl payment. Just today the refund was deposited into my Canadian account minus the 20% tax. Does anybody know if I can get this tax back and how I would go about doing it? Any info would be greatly appreciated....thanx

Yes, you can get this back. The catch is that someone in Japan has to file the request and receive the tax refund for you. When I did it, my school gave me both the lump sum withdrawl and tax refund paperwork at the same time saying "This one you file when you get home. This one, we'll file after you receive the lump sum payment." Fortunately, the timing worked out that I was able to get my tax refund when I took a vacation to Japan and met up with some old friends.

Sorry this info isn't more useful for you, but it may help others looking to do the same thing.
