Hi, I'm leaving tonight for bangkok. I'm a female travelling alone, where should I maybe be looking to stay when I come in?

Just wondering what is the norm in terms of being able to leave my bags in my hotel room?

Also where would i be able to store luggage in bkk if i wanted to just take a backpack with me down to the islands?

I'm also planning after my first few days to book a flight to hong kong and i heard it was cheaper to do it directly with the airlines so if anyone could recommend some I'd appreciate it.

And last but not least I'm looking to travel around a bit b4 I start my english camp job in august...any suggestions as to where I MUST go?

thanks

I like that. Waiting until the night before to worry about a place to hang your hat.

Very Happy

A place to stay TOTALLY depends on your budget.

But there's good, relatively cheap places off Sukhumvit near the Nana BTS station (the World Inn on soi 7/1 is one as is the Nana hotel).

The Nana hotel (as well as the Nana City Inn on soi 4) lets you leave bags with them for awhile but I wouldn't leave ANYTHING valuable in them.

One of the cheapest ways to get to Hong Kong would be to buy a ticket on the China Airlines web site.

Have a safe trip.

Since you're a female traveling alone, I don't recommend the Nana Hotel, which is right across the street from Nana Entertainment Plaza, one of the biggest "girlie bar" complexes in the world.

The cheapest way to Bangkok is usually Air Asia, which flies out of Macao. You could PM me for some web sites for cheap flights from Bangkok.

There are a lot of cheap guesthouses in Khao San Road. I haven't stayed there, but I've visited often enough. It's noisy, crowded, and full of interesting expats, most of whom seem not to be sexpats. (Not that I'm judging those guys--I've been to Nana more than once!)

When you arrive in Bangkok, you can take a bus from the airport for 100 baht, just outside the arrival area in the international area.

It will be low season in Thailand, which means that hotels will be empty and willing to bargain, so make sure you do. The well-worn tourist destinations are Bangkok, Pattaya (sleazy but lots to do, and cheap), Chiang Mai (take the plane), Kho Samui, and Phuket.

Have fun--I love Thailand, but I live in China.

I would avoid buying directly from the airlines for international flights, you almost always pay more than you would at a travel agent, unless you fly on Air Asia. Flights are dirt cheap to Hong Kong. You could fly to Macau from Bangkok on Air Asia, it is real cheap, but you might find you will pay almost the same from a travel agent, check out the classifieds of the Bangkok Post to get price ideas. I have used April Travel in the past, but it is just one of many travel agents with ads.

I would suggest staying at the Muang Phol Mansion opposite BTS National Stadium/MBK. It is a nice centrally located room, it is cheap but the rooms are not that bad.
