|
|
Hello Mexico forum people
I have a question...
Have been working in Mexico for the past year, and have saved a lot of pesos.
Will be returning to the UK soon, and need some advice on the most COST EFFECTIVE way to get my money home to England.
Seems like my options are:
-send home through bank (expensive on both ends)
-take huge wad of pesos home (can you change pesos ok in the post office in England?)
-change money into travellers cheques...but would I have to change to US dollars and then change them once in UK to pounds? Would I lose a lot of money this way?
Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated!
Thanks |

Try Western Union, definitely cheaper than most banks. Or get the notes changed into $1000 peso ones to make the wad smaller. Yes, you can change them anywhere in England though the Post Office has the lowest commission I think. |

You can get traveller's cheques in Euros and maybe pounds.
The best way is probably to have the bank make you a cashier's check. It's called a Giro in Spanish. At HSBC you can get these issued in pesos, dollars, pounds, euros or yen! (or at least you could two years ago) their is a flat fee for the check, regardless of the amount. Two years ago it was 260 pesos.
The other option is spend it all on silver jewlery and sell the jewlery on your arrival in the UK... (you might make a nice profit and shopping in Taxco is a lot more fun then trying to get the HSBC employees it issue you a check! ) |
