Hi,

I was going to apply for a sixty day visa here in Korea before I head to Bangkok. I am only purchasing a one way ticket, as I will be heading back to Canada to visit family after the two months. Will they give me a problem if I only have a one way ticket upon arrival at the airport? Will I be asked to show the return ticket either when I apply here at the embassy or in Thailand? I don't want to be refused entry so any advice would be helpful.
Thanks a bunch Smile

In theory I believe they could refuse to let you in, but I've never known it actually happen.

^ I think with a proper Visa he'll be okay....it's only (or should be) if you come in without a Visa (a 30 day stamp on arrival) that they can turn you away (they won't but you might have problems with your carrier).

However, you need to show return tix to get the visa, according to Thai Embassy in China.

Are they stricter in some places (of application for visa) than others ?

To the poster in Korea - check here :

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=39539

(I asked the same in the China Off-topic section).

The Embassy in Shanghai said no tickets necessary to apply for visa.

From what the other posters have said here, there are no airport checks either. Seems logical, as people come and go by various means of transport.

Footsteps: Thanks for the link and the information. I called the Thai embassy here in Korea and they just said to bring a photo and passport. I will apply later since she said it only takes about a week to get. She did mention something about when arriving in Bangkok they will decide how long the visa is for. I was confused about that part. I thought they automatically give me a 60 day visa when I apply here in Korea? Confused
I'll find out soon enough anyway, I'll keep you posted.

I suspect she was just covering her arse. A visa, technically, doesn't give you the right to enter for any particular period - the immigration officer could turn you away, or stamp you in for one day or one year as the spirit moved him. In practice, however, anyone with a tourist visa will be stamped in for 60 days. Unless your suitcase is full of crack cocaine. Smile

^ Spot on mate!

I've known a few people that have been stamped in less than they should have got (accidentally, so easily sorted at Imm).

And i know a Singaporean that was refused the 30 day extension.....so it is basically down to Imm as to what you get, but as long as you don't give them a reason to give you less...you should be fine.

Was there any particular reason why the Singaporean was refused ?

No reason as far as she knew.

Saying that though she does get her Thai Visas free from some of the countries in Asia.

If you're still here NS, could be worth trying to get a 1 yr non-imm B from where you are. I was amazed at how easy it was to get one, albeit from my homeland. All I did was do up my own headed business letter with an old unused family business name on the top, stating I was going over to LOS to with the view to open prospective business ties with local producers.... etc etc. Put down that the business will be financially responsible for me etc etc etc. 4 days later and had it in my hand.

This was in done in my own homeland and I presume it wouldn't be this easy in the embassy in Korea, but surely worth a try.

Just do up a decent looking letter, be freshly 'pruned', stinking of Hugo Boss in a fleshly pressed suit or shirt.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say.

For three years - ending just in December last year - I obtained the "60 day" tourist visas twice a year from the Thai embassy in Seoul.

- You don't need a return ticket to get it. You need a passport type photo and photocopy of the face page of your passport - and W40,000.

- Don't mess around with a non-Imm B visa. They will tell you quite clearly that if you don't use it (get the extension and convert it into a work permit?) they may refuse to issue another one in the future. Thus if you ever seek work in Thailand - you may find that you can not get the correct visa to do so.

As others mention above - nothing is guaranteed. In fact, with my last "60 day visa" I was stamped in for 90 days (though I am sure it was a mistake and didn't try to take advantage of it)!

Will not happen in Asia I'm afraid without a work permit. In the West it's relatively easy....although you need to know what you're doing.

Problem is if they put in for a multiple and are knocked back you might find they refuse you a tourist Visa....as they know you're going there to work.

TK,

I've heard of people being stamped in for 90 days on a tourist Visa if they asked for it (as really it's advertised as a 90 day Visa)...but in your case yeah I reckon it was a bit of luck...saying that I know Non-imm B holders that have only got 30 days on entry as Imm didn't see that they had one (easily rectified....but check your stamp on entry to save you a trip to Imm).

Thanks guys for the information..just an update.

Tedkarma was correct on this one. I automatically was given a "60 day," tourist visa, and only needed my passport, one passport sized photo and an application form. She gave me an extension form to fill out to show at immigration in Bangkok, if I want to extend the "60 day" visa to "90 day" visa.
I may just be lucky like TK, and get a 90 day stamp upon arrival.

Cheers Very Happy

^ They'll occasionally mess up and give you 90 on entry instead of 60 days....but it's worth actually asking them to....I know a few people that were successful by doing so.
