Is the Middle East a good place for one who is trying to avoid sad old mingers on a wife hunt?
I'd like to work alongside normal people who dont have perverted racial preferences and illusions of grandeur. |

First the good news. The answer to your question is yes. This is beacuse a) the local women are totally off-limits, despite what you may see implied on a certain other thread on this page; and b) because "available" single expat women are so greatly outnumbered by single expat males that the Gulf is without any doubt a women's market.

Now for the bad news: you won't find the type of colleagues you're looking for in the Gulf. |

Dear Pollux,
Thanks for the advice about Antarctica I found some amazing EFL vacancies at the Research Station. There are a few opportunities each summer to teach scientists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Ecuador. The going rate is $3500 a month, free flights, 4 times a year and free accommodation, plus 6 weeks holiday. |

Only 6 weeks holiday... forget it!!
And the salary is pretty paltry for the living conditions... would have to be over $5000 for consideration...

Yeah, but probably not many perverted colleagues with illusions of grandeur. |

In my experience, the word "minger" (the "ng" pronounced as in "singer") refers to a physically unattractive member of either gender. |

Never heard that though there is a word 'minging' in Scots which means 'dirty'. |

Personally I have never heard the term, but then there is little reason to learn the more obscure UKish slang. Besides I could figure it out from context... just to show my students that the concept often works!!
I had tagged it mentally as meaning 'loser' - the potbellied bald guy... slobbery drunk at the end of the bar...

...proposing marriage to the young, beautiful, exotic TEFL teacher who just popped into the “Last Call Inn” for a quick tequila shot between her yoga class and a light lunch consisting of salad, yogurt, and mineral water.
BTW, the word 'c.o.c.k.t.a.i.l' returns a *beep* |
