Is anyone working currently for these guys? What are they offering these days? Does anyone know the amount of rents for the housing?

Thanks,

Aramco no longer hire direct. They take people through sub-contractors. Not a good place to be.

Compared to where. The salaries are still reasonable, between $40-45,000 I believe.

Yes it is all comparative and I am sure that being with one of the contractots who provide Aramco with teachers, cleaners and bus drivers might be better than teaching at El Whizzo Private Language Academy and Crammer.

I think it is preferable to be in one of the academic institutions in the government sector. Especially when it is June and tle long summer holidays are on the horizon !

The salary at Aramco is higher than in many goverment institutions, and the classes are likely to be smaller.

Aramco is brutal. The salary is better than most in the gulf-!4,000 Riyals a month circa 1995, but- as I said, the place is brutal. The best jobs in Saudi-and the best pay are with either Raytheon in Jeddah or BAE in the Eastern Province.

Scot47,
Just wondering how the space program is going on Proxima Centauri lately - you've now been a cadet in the program for a number of years. When's graduation or is the rate of progress on par with Saudi military cadets?

What do mean by brutal? I just can't imagine it as brutal. I've served on fishing vessels in the North Atlantic where you could describe life aboard as brutal, but somehow I can't relate it to English teaching. What disaster can you expect? A photocopier cutting across the staff? You have to get up early? Work late?

Trust me. It's brutal, pal. Working downwind from a noxious fuel refinery with the windows open. "Windows must be open!" Teaching 6 maybe 7 hours a day to Taliban wannabes. "Why you say moon go
round earth? This only theory!". Nearly constant humiliation and abuse from one's "superiors". Our office admisnistrator actually took it upon himself to open my flat and inspect my bedroom while I was at work. Through my underwear drawer, no less! ... Shall I go on?
By the way, any tips on getting a job as a deckhand?

OK, I see what you mean. I'd say it's humiliating not brutal. On the bright side, I don't think anyone goes to KSA for the cultural experience. We choose to prostitute ourselves for the money. I'm willing to put with the nonsense for a few years to replenish my bank account. I couldn't give a shit if the world is round or flat, or if my 'students' learned anything or not. I give my best that they do, but in the end it's up to them.

As to fishing, I can't recommend that to anyone. It's brutal. I've seen grown men cry. So, next time you order a plate of scollops do not complain about the price, because men have risked their life to get it to your table. 10 years ago I was making 5000 dollars for 12 day trips. I doubt it's same now. I haven't kept up with the industry, so I just don't know.
I do know that some of them didn't come back. I do remember accepting Jesus every shift Very Happy
