I want to start teaching in early-mid September in Santiago. I realize that this is not the best time to start, as I will have to shortly face the almost non-existant demand for teachers in the summer. But it is the earliest I can get out of Michigan, and I don't want to wait until the spring.

My question is, should I pay 500 dollars for job placement through Bridge Linguatec (in addition to 300 dollar online cert.)??? Since I am coming late in the season, I am worried that I wont get work at all, especially in the summer months. I would be screwed.

They guarantee 4120 pesos, 7 dollars per hour, and at least 30-34 hrs. per month, even in summer. Is this a low wage? I know this is not many hours, but, better than nothing. 8-12 month contracts. I have a BA, some volunteer experience, will have on line certificate, and I am presentable.

Try my luck on the fly, or go for overpriced security?

A tip from my TEFL trainer in Santiago: NEVER accept a job for less than $5500 (pesos) an hour. Most institutes will pay about this amount, anything less isn't worth it.

Thanks, Good advice> Would I be able to secure that wage in a contract in mid-September though? It seems a little more risky, but probably worth it to try my chances. I just don't want this to turn into a rather short vacation.

hey,
read the previous posts! you wont have a problem finding a job in september. DO NOT pay a fee, are you crazy? not to mention that what theyre offering is crap, 30-35 hrs a month? 4100 pesos? no way, thats a total ripoff.
either way, work will be scarce during jan-march, plan for it.
