Hi everyone-

I have my first TESOL interview coming up this week & I was hoping to get some advice. The interview is for an ESL teaching position in a small language school here in the US & I am supposed to prepare a half-hour demo lesson for intermediate learners. I am VERY nervous & am trying to calm myself down by being well prepared. Please offer up any tips you have!

A few specific questions:

1. What should I wear to the interview?
2. Will I be giving the demo lesson to actual students?
3. Is it likely that I will be asked technical grammar questions?
4. Will the interviewer expect to have a copy of my lesson plan?
5. Is it acceptable for me to use notes during the lesson?

Thank you for your help! Also, I did try to search for answers to these questions, but had trouble with the search function. (Please dont yell at me!)

1. Something smart. Nothing you'd wear on a beach.
2. Yes.
3. By the students? Perhaps. Make sure you know what you're teaching inside-out. If you are using any kind of text, make sure you've anticipated how to explain any unknown words/structures.
4. Yes.
5. I would think so. Just lay a copy of your notes on the desk in front of you to refer to now and again.

Have more than enough material in case you run out.
Grade your language, especially when explaining grammar.
Keep a nice consistent pace throughout.
Relax.
Enjoy it.
Good luck.
