From what I have heard here and on other boards, Shane has a very bad reputation. Even if 1/4 of what I have heard is true, I wouldn't work for them. There was a site called scumbagsinjapan.com that had a big page of bad stuff about this school, but it has since been removed. Perhaps the page was actually just slander.

The scumbagsinjapan site wasn't 'just slander'. I can't vouch for all of it but from my own experience I'd say a lot of it was true and the rest of it was probably true. However that was some time ago and I know people who reckon shane has improved, as in they're not quite so bad as they were.

I don't know your situation, but if you have a choice of jobs I'd say put shane to the bottom of the list. Once you actually arrive in Japan you'll have more options. It's up to you whether you think it's ethical to take the shane job just for the visa and do a runner straight from the airport. I personally would give any company a first and second chance at least before breaking a contract, but don't waste too much time making allowances for them. The golden rule in this business is: if it seems dodgy, it probably is dodgy. Be ready to cut your losses and move on.

You'll probably like Japan, however!

It's the worst school in the world. Don't get tied down to their accomodation. Don't do any extra work unless you have something in writing promising you extra pay.

The www.scumbagsinjapan.com site has an expose on Shane. This site was up and running the last time I checked.

Scumbagsinjapan is back in action. Look there for details. I wouldn't work for SESJ ever!
