Hey guys,

I've been trying to find out airfare costs (cheapest, of course) from Manila to Muscat, but the websites I checked out weren't very helpful. Would anyone here have an idea? If I will work in Muscat for an indefinite period, should I get a one-way ticket?

Thanks.

I don't think you can get a visa with a one way ticket - you have to show that you can leave - the same for most countries I believe. Shouldn't your company be paying for this trip? That is the usual method. As for price, I couldn't say.

The school said they will only reimburse my airfare after I've fulfilled their probationary period (?)..how does that sound? Do other schools pay for airfare from country of origin?

Thanks.

Ateloz, I don't know if there are any direct flights in from Manila to Muscat, but a one-way stopover flight should cost you about USD550. (Emirates Airlines)

As far as I know, it is standard to pay for the ticket first and be reimbursed soon after arrival.

As to buying one-way or return, you will probably pay less than the above price each way of you buy return. Just be certain that the ticket can still be used by the time you go home!

Good luck.

Personally I have never paid for a ticket to a job. And I don't think I would accept a job from an empoyer who didn't pay it up front. At least that is the policy with all the university level employers I have dealt with over the years.

The Omani labor law states that the employer or employee may terminate the contract without any reason or notice in the first 3 months - this is the probation period. It is useful for both parties to bail out of a bad situation or poor performance without any strings - I would be a bit wary that they will pay you for the ticket only after this period - if it doesn't work out, they can let you go without any refund for the ticket, or if you hate the stiuation you're out of pocket for your short experience in Oman.
