I'm feeling a little helpless. I'd like to find a hotel in Nakatsu, Kita-Ku, Osaka (are those even in the right order?). I need it to be clean, and I need my own room, but beyond that it doesn't much matter. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks.

These are generally good hotels.

You don't need to limit yourself to Nakatsu... it's only a five-minute walk to Umeda, where there are lots and lots of cheap hotels (business, love, capsule, luxury, etc).

So you think if I show up on a Saturday evening, it's no problem to find a love motel or something in Umeda?

Also, I have this address, transliterated, I guess. I understand Japan uses a unique addressing system. Is it going to be tough for me to find this place (with zero Japanese vocabulary)?

I think if you arrive before 10pm, it shouldn't be a problem finding a room in a love hotel. After 10, it may be more of a challenge (because it's Saturday night), although you can still probably find one. There are also plenty of business hotels (which usually go for about the same rate... around 7000 yen for a single), that should have rooms (the weekends are less busy for business hotels because they cater to salarymen during the week). It wouldn't hurt to reserve one just in case though (find one where you don't need to give your credit card info, in case you need to cancel and don't want to be charged a cancellation fee).

To get to Nakatsu, just walk north from Umeda station. It's only about 5 minutes from Hankyu Umeda's north exit.

As for finding the building, the Japanese address system takes a little getting used to. Instead of looking for streets, you need to look for blocks. Most buildings will have an address plate that identifies the block. You'll need to find the kanji for Nakatsu (中津) and then narrow down your search to the right block. It can be confusing for some, so you might need to stop once or twice into a convenience store and ask for help. I think there's a 7-11 next to Nakatsu subway station.
