Anyone able to share experience in dealings with Bahwan Cybertek, currently recruiting for MOHE? The good, bad and ugly welcome.

Since I had never seen an ad before this one showed up lately... and there has never been any mention of them doing any hiring before, I expect that this is their first foray with this contract.

Buyer beware... and make sure to get the contract details and compare them with the offers of the other agents to make sure that you are not getting ... err... screwed?

Bahwan seems to have their fingers in many pies. I have used their travel agencies in the past, but never heard of them hiring teachers. Perhaps they did elementary or secondary in the past... hiring from the subcontinent? just speculating here...

Bahwan not only have travel agencies and hotels, they are also the owners of Hawthorn and Sur University College - read previous posts to familiarise yourself with the problems they created there. If their MOHE recruiter is the same person who has previously been discussed by several people on this board, be doubly warned.

Thanks Borealis, so they are now advertising using a different contract name to try to seem like it is a new project. Actually owners? or probably partners with others? Very interesting...

This recruiter didn't provide upfront information of any substantial kind about conditions and salary. I emailed them requesting details, but they didn't respond. Exclamation

VS, Bahwan bought the franchise for Hawthorn from Melbourne University Private. The latter is now defunct. As far as I know they are not in parnership with anyone else re SUC, although Melbourne helped them wth the setting up. I'd say your conclusion about the new name/new contract is the right one.

An ex-colleague from Muscat sent me this link. It seems that Hawthorn and its notorious recruiter are still recruiting for the MOHE. That would make the deal with Cybertek appear to be in direct competition - assuming the contract is indeed a separate one. It's interesting to note how low the salaries have gone! I can only repeat - stay away from this school and this recruiter and you will save yourself a great deal of grief. Oman is so gorgeous that I can only imagine how fantastic it would be to live there for several years, secure in the knowledge that your employer is honest and professional.

This lot sent me an e-mail saying that I had been selected for a teaching position.
I replied asking them to send me some details - conditions, salary etc.
They then sent me another e-mail saying that I had been deselected.

I also noticed that in their first e-mail they asked me to fill in one line of(what looked like) an excel spreadsheet.
They asked for name, degree, years experience, present salary and "expected salary."

I think the idea is that they collect all the data on teachers and then sort it in the spreadsheet. Those teachers asking for the lowest salary - provided that they have some experience and a degree - win the prize. The prize being a badly paid job with a very dodgy outfit.

US interviews this weekend.

Wonder how many they'll attract. Salaries are only $1800 USD.

700 OR? I am presuming that is without an MA? I'd still say that they are skimming a bit much...

Let them skim on the bottom with their low salaries. They will get some naive Westerners and it will be a bad experience. Those of us who have good credentials and experience should expect much higher and ask for it. You don't want to "just make it" in a Gulf country. You're there to make money, too!

All the best,

They are apparently holding two days of recruitment in London 25/26 th July, but they don't yet know where.

Also, they will not be paying travelling expenses for those people who agree to be interviewed
