There are several bilingual colegios in Puebla. From what I remember, The American was the best paying in the city and they also treated their teachers quite well. I worked at a different school in Puebla, and many of our teachers quit to go to work for Colegio Americano.
I really enjoyed living in Puebla. If I could find an acceptable job there, I could see myself living there forever. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I'm back in the states so I could actually get paid what I think I deserve to get paid.
That aside, Puebla is in the mountains, so its not really hot like some of the coastal cities. It is dry in the winter but gets a lot of rain in the summer. There are not a lot of tourisits there, so the culture is almost pure Mexican. The Poblanos themselves are known for not being very friendly, but if you make the effort to get to know them (make the first move) you will have life long friends that will do anything for you! I have read posts about how hard it is to make friends in Mexico, but I didn't experience this personally. Most people will assume, if you look like a foreigner, that you don't speak Spanish and therefore they won't talk to you. Again, make the first move and you will really see that people want to know about you and who you are.
Puebla is also a little on the expensive side as far as living expenses go. You can survive on an average teacher salary, but you won't be able to travel a lot, pay off student loans, or do anything like that.
Let me know if you have any other questions about Puebla |

thank you for the info Flo. is there anyone living in puebla, the city, who could give me an idea about prices on apts? i have read a lot of threads that say anywhere from 2000 pesos to, well, higher. i am hoping to find a roomate so if anyone in the city is sharing and could give me a range that would be great. i am not looking for anything fancy or large nor in an expensive neighborhood; something modest and near a bus line (which i doubt is difficult) would be perfect. also, how hard is it to find roomates? is it as easy as going to one of the universities and finding a message board?
thanks for the continued help everyone. |

I am currently sharing a 2 bedroom house in a fraccionamiento and total cost is 3500 pesos a month. This is furnished and in a pretty quiet neighbourhood. Prior to this place I was living in a one bedroom apartment (unfurnished) which cost 1600. Both these places are toward Cholula and it would take around 20-30mins to get to the Colegio Americano from there.
Not sure about finding roommates but Universidad de las Americas is in Cholula so there are plenty of places to rent around there. |
