I want to find a teaching position in Suzhou or Hangzhou, or possibly Nanjing or Ningbo for the upcoming semester. I would prefer to teach adults. Any info, contacts, warnings, etc. pertaining to these areas will be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Aaron, a little about yourself: location, qualifications, experience would be handy. I have connections in Suzhou and Ningbo, but wouldn't want to spoil them, no offence meant.

No problem. I'm caucasian, male, 25 years old, and currently reside in the U.S. of A.. I'm a college graduate with a psych degree, although I started as an English major. During college I worked as an educator at a special needs wilderness camp, and a tutor at a special needs school.

Hello, Aaron,

I have lots of contacts in Nanjing -- lots of schools asking me if I know some foreign teachers, but I honestly wouldn't recommend anyone work for them. If you want to punish yourself, feel free to PM me and I will name some Nanjing training schools for you. The training school market is becoming increasingly competitive, but also shaky here. A few schools that were thriving here 2-3 years ago (financially-speaking, not the quality of service) are slowly going down (or have already shut their doors). Another, impressive-looking, high-profile school was recently exposed and protested on local TV by disgruntled students. (Fortunately, I never worked for that one.) I'll point you toward some places, but remember... I warned ya!

I've been offered three jobs in Suzhou. PM me. I've turned them down as they are too iffy, by which I mean standard Chinese deals, by which I mean it could be ok or it could be hell.

I'm pretty new to this, so I was wandering what you meant by the standard Chinese deal being iffy/ things to look out for, etc. Is there one particular thing keeping you from the SZ contracts? What should I be looking out for?

Thanks
