I've been doing ielts testing in China for several years - so I wonder if I know DaXiangLouis?
The current requirement is a CELTA plus 3 years post-certification experience. In theory, this is now the international standard for being an ielts examiner - in theory!
The official ielts site, as has been pointed out, now shows the criteria. These 'public' criteria are almost exactly what the examiner has in front of him/her when marking.
If anyone needs any more info, let me know.
As an aside, if there are any ielts examiners out there, I'd love to compare notes about testing in various countries. Send a pm. |

Just a word of advice - if a student can write in more than 1 'handwriting stlye - i.e.letter formation - try and ensure they just pick one.
I had a case the other week of a student who wrote her task 1 in 'Indian' style - and task 2 in Fillipino - very different. So different in fact we all thought that somehow she had managed to cheat and get someone to write one of the tasks - even though she had never left the room and nobody elses paper looked 'dodgy'. After the exams department looked into it - they actually got the candidte in and asked her to produce the 2 styles it was apparent that she could in fact write in both.
Interesting.......... |
