Hi folks,
I've been thinking of applying to Westgate, but this
"Westgate provides two types of furnished apartments, single and shared. The type of the apartment is determined by the instructor's assignment and Westgate has the sole and exclusive authority to determine each instructor's assignment. Depending on the school assignment, you will live alone or with up to three other instructors. All instructors have private bedrooms. Such shared apartments have shared bathroom, living, dining, and kitchen areas."
has made me hesitate for more than a year now as I've worked other jobs.
Can anyone offer any reliable information on how common shared apartments are? I am not 22 and just out of uni and I'd really rather not share an apartment with anyone. Heck, I didn't want to share an apartment even when I was 22 and just out of uni.
Thanks for your help!
Other thoughts on Westgate very much welcome, especially staying in Japan post-Westgate. |

As Westgate only offers 3 month contracts its unlikely former Westgate teachers will hang around ESL teaching forums unless they stay in Japan. |

Westgate tends to use Leo Palace and charges quite a bit for rent. Depending on where you are, you might be better off living in a guest house or renting a Leo Palace apartment by yourself.
But, their housing isn't bad. But if your school is in the centre of Tokyo, for example, you're likely to have to commute well over an hour to get back to your apartment in the burbs. |

I did a three-month contract with Westgate in Nagoya. There were about seven of us in the area, all with single apartmentsno idea what the chances of getting a shared apartment are though. You do get to make a request for the kind of place you want |
