I've been reading the many China job postings, but haven't found both our main req.s in one job.

We're looking for a summer or short term contract (4 months max)teaching adults/young adults only. Since it's summer weather and short term, we're not too fussy about the location (although a coastal city might be nice).

We are a mature couple with degrees, TEFL certs, 4 years experience teaching ESL in Europe and 6 months in Vietnam. We're young at heart, but not young enough to get down on the floor with the kiddies for hours every day. We love teaching, and would like to experience a bit of teaching and life in China before we have to leave Asia in the fall.

As has been suggested, OP is probably a bit ahead of time to be looking for a gig for the summer. Come May or June there should be some ads for "summer camps" and "language villages". In the summer of 2005 I taught at a "Global Language Village" run in Zhuhai by Concordia U or Moorhead, MN. For people coming from the USA it's a good way to get a taste of China, paid for, with no long-term commitment. Good luck!

I did a couple summer camp jobs in Zhejiang province. The first one was pretty good, in Cixi, a small, sad factory town next to Ningbo. It was only good because the pay was good...I think maybe 6,000 for 3 classes a day for 2 weeks.

Second was in Lishui, small mountain town near Wenzhou. 6 classes though, but there was a lot more recreational activity. These things seem like such scams. Like a bunch of foreigners drive up to a small town asking for a lot of money, then they just bullshit some lesson plans.

12-15 years old unfortunately. I haven't seen any adult summer camps.

Thanks for the info. We'll try to do it on Chinese time and wait until right before the summer starts, and will keep following the listings.

The camps where any foreigner can show up and offer "lessons" for a bit of cash DO seem a bit of a scam, but I suppose all those involved can still get something out of it.

In January I saw that Int'l House had an ad on their main site for summer sessions, teaching exam prep courses to adults in beautiful Qingdao -- right up our alley. But then they pulled the ad (left over from last year rather than an early start for this one?) Still, it's what got us thinking this type of work is there in China, somewhere, and we'd love to hear from anyone who knows of a legit. summer job for adults/young adults.
