I will be acquiring my CELTA in Thailand over the month of September and will need to look for a job beginning in October. Is this a bad time to be on the hunt in Taiwan? |

Well, Aristotle will no doubt tell you there are no jobs to be found becaue the TESOL market in Taiwan has dried up. Don't believe it.
There are always jobs to be found, at any time of year. There will be fewer jobs in October due to positions with September starts being filled, but there will still be positions available. |

Way to go getting your CELTA before arriving. Don't be shy to use it as leverage in your interview: remember, many new teachers arriving at that time of year are absolutely green.
October is a dangerous time to arrive and start to look for work. That's why we have the Internet. If you can get a few prospects now, they will know you are coming and can leave a place open for you, and even if they don't take you, you'll be on their books and they can call on you when some newbies inevitably slither home on their yellow bellies. Start Looking Now- you won't regret it. |

Yes, I agree with Kuberkat. October is NOT a prime time to arrive in Taiwan. However, you can certainly find a good job if you plan ahead. It's good advice to try and have a good, comfortable job in place before you arrive.
http://Buxiban.com and http://ReachToTeachRecruiting.com are good places to start looking. |

This is terrible advice that gets many people into a lot of trouble.
Summer is the best time to arrive and look for a job but be prepared for the heat as it is getting hotter every year.
You need to be in Taiwan to find a decent job. Offers made abroad are seldom what they are ascribed to be. On Taiwan lies and deception are an indicate part of the culture. The sooner you realize that the sooner you will be on the road to success on Taiwan.
If you want to live and work here you must be prepared, do your homework and get a multiple entry visa before you arrive unless you are planning on taking a position in the public schools on Taiwan ( not recommended ).

Good luck!
