I've also posted this question in the General Discussions index. I'm an American, and I have recently earned my LTCL Diploma TESOL from Trinity College, London. What I'm wondering is, is it worth anything in the US? Is it the equivanent of any sort of degree? I ask because it's sort of equivalent to a Master's degree in the UK. I don't actually have a first degree, myself, so if I return to the US (which I may do this year), I'll need to find out something about this. At 40 years old, I'm reluctant to go back to university, or shell out the money for a bachelor's degree if I don't need one...but can I get a teaching position with the Diploma?? |

Sorry, but only a degree is the equivalent of a degree.
Whether you can teach without a degree is up to the market. I imagine that there are a lot of people with degrees who want to teach ESL in the US, and therefore you may well need a degree to go that route.
However, private language schools are private and can therefore do whatever they want, which includes hiring people without degrees. |

You could try getting your qualification accredited. See...

Having obtained my first and second degrees from UK universities (I am American), I found that US universities and community colleges usually require this step when you apply for a job with foreign-earned qualifications.
