Zidane will present a written version of the event which led to his expulsion from the World Cup Final (France v. Italy) during his 'confrontation' with 'goon' Materazzi. Sepp Blatter (President of FIFA) will decide what sanctions (if any) to impose upon the French star (of Algerian, Berber parents).

Whatever Materazzi said to Zidane, and it appears we may never learn the exact truth behind the words which originally came from the Italians' mouth - one thinks Zidane made a grave professional error, which will be remembered as his last legacy to the game - unfortunate, in a career which was largely respected, despite a couple of other incidents, in which Zidane lost his cool (stomping on a Saudi player in a 2002 World Cup qualifier) and head butting (yes - head to head!) a German player in a Champions League match against a German team.

Zidane then went on French 'Canal Plus' (cable t.v.) to explain his act, and apologise to kids who will have seen his unfortunate action. Zidane also alluded to the fact that members of his family (mother and sister) were 'dishonored' by the words coming from Materazzi - a grave crime for Muslims.....even thought Zidane is not a practicing Muslim.

Over 60 percent of French forgive Zidane for his transgression, but ghost is not one of those. Zidane certainly lost a lot of credibility with his act, and many of his fans (including ghost) lost some of their respect, love and admiration for the man. Trash talk is a reality on the sports field, and one thinks that Zidane should have held his cool, for the good of his team and sport in general. Very sad episode and end to a magnificent career.

Please. These are grown men, and one of them teased the other. Poor poor Zidane. He got teased and couldn't take it. Bad bad Materazzi, he teased Zidane. Now they're seriously considering sanctioning Materazzi because he teased someone? Or trying to justify Zidane's actions because, well, that was some bad teasing?

I can't believe the media has wasted this much time on this topic. If Zidane was so upset about being teased, why not use the reliable 'I'm rubber, you're glue...' Or 'I know you are, but what am I?'

Maybe they can be required to go back to kindergarten, re-learn some basic life lessons.
