Hello, I've been a lurker for a while on the Mexico board...thank you everyone for posting all of the useful information.
My sweetheart and I are planning on moving to Mexico this fall to teach ESL, just got our CELTAs, recent college graduates. I was an exchange student/anthropology intern in Cuautla, Morelos two years ago and would like to continue to improve my Spanish/go back. I've been hoping to make contact with schools before we go and I'm interested in the Universidad Vasconcelos in Oaxaca city. I'm trying to find a contact person for being an English teaching assitant/whatever ESL grunt work they have Smile I went onto their web site, found a Claudia Toledo Matus in the Department of Foreign languages...is this the person I need to talk to? I called today and the receptionist told me she would be in tommorrow.
A few of you mentioned that you had worked in univerisities in Oaxaca City...any reccomendations. I'm not set on universities per se, but I hear they tend to be a bit more reliable and I really enjoy college campuses, grew up in a college town and so forth...sometimes they can be a good way to meet people/make friends/practice my Spanish.
On on my qualifications: I have a BA in Anthropology, minor in Spanish, the CELTA, have volunteered 3 years as an ESL tutor in the US, spent the last year directing the tutoring program in a public high school.
I also got a response from Cambridge Academy when I sent them my resume and cover letter...I 've read on the forum that they are good but would appreciate any specifics.
I did a search on the form for Vasconcelos and Cambridge and didn't find specifics, so if I accidently missed a thread which already answered my questions, I apologize.
Good luck all you wonderful Mex-pats. Espero que pueda venir pronto ! Mil gracas!
