My girlfriend and I have talked about doing this together. Her passport and degree are from Mexico. Can she work in Taiwan?

Bienvenidos a la Republica de China en Taiwan. Errr, something like that.

In order to get a real answer, you need to cough up more information --not necessarily to us, but to the TECO office nearest you. Based on the little info you've provided, my guess is your girlfriend will have a tough time. However, as with everything in Taiwan, there's more than one way to skin a dragon.

1) What was your girlfriend's major?
2) What university did she attend?
3) Can you get hitched before coming here?

Again, it's tough to answer your question without more details. Your best bet is to give those guys at TECO a call. Be on guard, though, because even at TECO different people will give you different answers. The key is to befriend the nicest bureaucrat you can find there and that person will go to bat for you.

!Buena suerte! Smile

PS: A buddy of mine from Columbia is teaching at the Chinese Culture Univesity.

A few years back, I knew of a guy from the US, who had a Mexican girlfriend and both were teaching English in a small Taiwanese town for a year or more. I wouldn't say it is impossible but it is likely to be illegal.

I have a Mexican friend living here who works for a manufacturing company and sometimes teaches Spanish at a university.

Hadn't planned on anything like that.

Thank you for the info on TECO... that's a direction we weren't familiar with and we're still actively trying to find something like that to do.

Or I would like to find a decent paying job in brasilia whiile she works on a master's.
