I was wondering if anyone can give me any information on Lille, France as I have been offered a job and will be going there at the begining of September.
Many thanks and be lucky. |

i have friends who live in lille. I dont know too much about the city, sadly. I could ask them about it and see what they have to say.
What kind of job did you get?
and are there any more jobs *nudge* *nudge* |

Lille is a lovely place - lively and active with a thriving social scene.
The old city centre and La Grande Place always have some activities or other.
There are two Universities as well as numerous private Institutes so there are students everywhere.
The metro system is suberb - quick, quiet, clean (and driverless !)
There are excellent weekly markets in the centre as well as at several places further out (Wazemmes on Sundays, for example)
Road transport can be a problem at rush hour, but motorway links to Paris, the Coast, Belgium, Germany are superb.
There are high speed rail connections North and South.
Thoroughly enjoyed my 2 years there. |

How are you getting on in Lille? It's not one of my favourite cities by a long way but a lot depends on how friendly people are.

To add on, Lille is also nice because you have easy access to Brussels, London, and Paris. While you're in the region, though, try to see some of the rural parts, too, especially the WWI areas like Ypres, Arras, and Vimy.
There's also some great shopping in Lille with EuraLille and the pedestrian area. The Marche de Noel is pretty special, too, around Christmas time.
The people in Le Nord are supposed to be very welcoming and friendly. They are said to have, "the warmth in their hearts that they don't find elsewhere" (i.e. outside- it's freezing and cloudy most of the year).
Lille also has some good nightlife- rue Saint torino or something like that.
I hope you're enjoying Lille! I lived in Valenciennes, about half an hour south of Lille for the last 7 months as a Teaching Assistant, and frequently went to Lille. |
