Hello,
Has anyone here taught in Honduras before? I got offered a job there, and I`m wondering if a work visa, and a steady income in Honduras is worth giving up the fun but insecure Buenos Aires lifestyle.
Kind regards to all. |

Being in Honduras right now, I would advise against it.
There isn't much security here, and there isn't much comfort, either.
Honduras is much poorer than Argentina, and you will probably find that your salary will make it difficult to have high quality of life.
Most schools here are not strong, and you usually cannot depend on support from locally-based administrators. Concepts of intetrity and honesty in Honduras are much different from many other places, and most people find here that most people are quite dishonest. It is also an exceptionally corrupt country, and this attitude trickles down into a great deal of day-to-day interaction.
Most people who leave here do not leave because they've had a good experience and want to move on. They leave because they're frustrated.
If you and older guy looking for sex with younger women, or a younger woman looking to snare a wealthier husband, you might find something here to make you happy. Of all the long-terme expats I know, those who seem happiest have come here mostly for these reasons. If your goals are loftier than that, however, I would look elsewhere.
It's a beautiful country (once you get past the litter and poverty), but it's not a good place to live and most people find it an intolerably annoying place to work. |

Thank you for the response. Its almost predectable but nothing like hearing it from another person. I had a strange correspondence with the teacher from the school anyway, saying that God was sending me there. It seemed too weird to look into further. Off to Mexico later on this month.
Kind regards,

Perhaps we've found Paulie...
Actually, that's not surprising. I hear a lot of people in Mexico who aren't particularly Catholic praising God for things, or for a send off. |

I know what you mean, Guy. In fact in Brazil a common way to say goodbye is Vai com Deus or Vete con Dios. However, in this particular case it was something like we need your right away, I dont know what Ill do without you, I feel like God is sending you to me. So its a bit stronger, lol. |

Slightly Offtopic: does "Via con Dios" have a meaning beyond "Go with God?" |

"Vaya con dios." ??
No, its really just something that is said, even by people who aren't particularly religious. It's like a "take care of yourself. have a good trip. god be with you." type of thing.
nothing to be weirded out by. |

Where is the level of education (basic math / literacy) in the Honduras compared to the US? FOr example, can most taxi drivers read a printed address? I have seen a few countires where this was relevant....the take you to the wrong place because they simply can't read the address, but the need the cash. Any info other than the CIA info page? |
